I still remember exactly where I was when I got a call that changed my life in 2010. While riding on a golf cart at a local country club – my phone rang. It was a job offer. Fall Dance Team coach. I immediately accepted.
Dance has been a part of my life for the last 24 years. I danced at a local studio and high school and made my college dance team. College dance team – while amazing and I made some fantastic friends – was just not the same. I missed having a team that was more like a family and having support from the community, friends and family.
Coaching dance has opened up other teaching and coaching opportunities and expanded my love for the sport. It is so much fun to be able to share a passion with younger people. I love being able to help them achieve their goals and dreams.
This past weekend – I attended my 13th consecutive Minnesota State Dance Tournament and I was not disappointed. Minnesota has some of the best athletes and dancers out there and I am so proud to be able to coach some of them.
and the winners of the 2017 Class 2A High Kick Division are…
The Sartell Sabre Dance Team finished first in the state in the high kick division and third in jazz for Class 2A. A huge accomplishment for our team and boy did they work hard to get there.
People who say that dance isn’t a sport – probably don’t realize the amount of work and dedication that it takes to place first and third in the state. Whether it is getting to practice at 6AM or only having a few weeks off between seasons – these girls are truly committed to the sport and their team.
Today I am PROUD. I am proud of the people these dancers are, the team they have become and proud to have been a part of it.
Congratulations SSDT! SURP. Last Time – Best Time.
