It has been a hot minute since my last PUPdate. Nellie is nine months old now and it feels like it was just yesterday that I was racing across town to pick her up. She has grown up a lot in the past five months and I am excited to share her 9 Month PUPdate. Also – I am dying looking through her old photos. I can’t believe she was ever that small!
When I picked her up she was only three pounds. She is now full-grown and weighs about 60 pounds. She doesn’t look that big, but she definitely feels that big when she sits on your lap.
She can do all of the basic commands (sit, stay, lay down, etc) but we are still working on the come part. She is so curious and always wants to explore. We made major improvements last weekend – let’s just hope it sticks! She can also shake, roll over, give high fives (well tens I guess with both paws) and Nate is teaching her to search for antlers.. Of course.
This girl is super food motivated. I used to be able to pick up pieces of her food from her dish and she would do tricks to get some. She has gotten smarter since then. Her favorites are peanut butter, cheese and basically anything that anyone else is eating….
Drinking from the outdoor faucet. It is more like biting the water stream… but she could do it all day and it is good entertainment for me. 🙂
What she loves to do:
Nellie loves being over at Nate’s parents house. We let her roam free for the most part over there and she has 66 acres to run around. She also has another dog to play with over there and gets to chase the cat and the four-wheeler. I keep telling Nate that we need another dog for her to play with all the time…. I don’t see him agreeing any time soon!
Other things that she is loving:
- Going on walks around the neighborhood
- New people and other dogs
- Hiding under the bed – but leaving her back legs out so we can still see her
- Looking out the window
Things she doesn’t love:
She does not like getting brushed, having her nails trimmed or being checked for ticks. I think it is anything that requires her to sit still when she doesn’t want to.
Tools we love:
Nate’s mom let us use her furminator brush this weekend. If your dog sheds – you need this brush. We had an entire plastic target bag full of hair after using it and I can’t imagine all of that hair around our house. Yuck.
Kong Toy. This is so nice and Nellie loves it. We fill it with peanut butter and it will occupy her for a while. I was also recently told that I should freeze the peanut butter in the Kong so it takes longer to get out.
What we are excited for:
We are excited about taking her to the lake and on the boat. Right now she will go into the water a little bit but we want to see if we can get her to jump off the dock and swim at the cabin.
We made it through another Monday! I am leaving for a mini-vacation this weekend and can’t wait. If you have a puppy, make sure to leave any tips, toy recommendations or anything else in the comments!
