Last weekend, the weather was gorgeous and left us Minnesotans craving more. This will be the first summer in our home and I can’t wait to host grill-outs, bonfires and yard game days. I am already playing the guessing game with all of the plants that are starting to sprout up. I guess we will see what they are when they bloom, right? 🙂 While thinking about hosting all of those events, I started thinking about what we needed to buy for our deck/patio. I compiled a list of some of my Outdoor Patio Must Haves.
When we moved into our new house, Nate and I purchased all new dishes. I am sure it would be fine to eat outside with our stoneware, but picking up some plastic plates, bowls and glasses sounded like a better idea. I know that you can always use paper plates and red solo cups – but I have been absolutely loving all of the patterns and designs for outdoor dishes. Some of my favorites are here, here and here.
The TJ Maxx in town also has some really cute patterns at a discounted price. You can’t go wrong with pineapples and flamingos. I also ended up picking up eight plastic glasses here. Most of our friends will generally drink out of some sort of mug – so eight seemed like a good number for backup. The last thing I want is broken glass in our yard around Nellie.
Having all of your silverware, condiments and napkins in one easy-to-move location is so smart. I have seen these in the Target Dollar Spot and also at TJ Maxx.
Decorative Throw Pillows
Throw pillows are a simple way to spice up your deck/patio. Just like the dishes, there are so many cute patterns available right now – it is almost like a whole additional room of your house to decorate. I love the pattern on this one and also really like this one and this one.
Lanterns and String Lights
I am so excited to add string lights to our deck this year. Our single light on our deck is really bright and kind of in your face, so adding the string lights will give it a fun ambiance and tie the whole space together. Some of my favorites are this set and this set. You can also get ones like this to match whatever theme you pick.
I guess this is kind of self-explanatory. You will need some furniture outside in order to incorporate all and any of the items above! 🙂 We still haven’t picked out any furniture for our patio. It is on my list. I am torn between this adorable sectional type style and the standard dining set. Which one do you have or like better?
This is one of those things that I would have never thought about but once I saw the selection at Target – I wanted one. #targetdoesitagain lol 🙂 I was chatting about outdoor rugs with a coworker and we did come to the conclusion that although we both think they are adorable – and want one – most rugs would probably only last one season in Minnesota. If Nate and I ever have a three season porch, you can find one of these in there.
Here’s to hoping this work week flies by. We are looking at a weekend in the 70’s coming up and I can’t wait to spend some more time outside. Nate is gone until next Thursday so it will just be me and the pup this weekend. I can’t believe she is already 9 months old! I feel like we just picked her up.
If you have something that you cannot live without on your patio, leave it in the comments. I have a blank slate right now and would love any of your suggestions!
