Happy Puppy Gotcha Day to our girl Nellie! She brings us so much joy – and stress – and we wouldn’t have it any other way.
One year ago, I frantically left work at 2:00 to drive 45 minutes to pick her up from K9 Rescue and Rehoming in Minnesota. She was so little and I was immediately in love. Nate and I had joked around about getting a dog, but I don’t think he actually thought I would go and pick her up!
To be honest, I really did not think the puppy thing through when I dropped everything to pick her up. I had dance team practice that night, our apartment did not allow pets and we wouldn’t close on our house for over a month… Oops – worth it.
I drove from the rescue straight to practice, emptied out a purse in my backseat, placed her inside and marched inside… One of my friends was already on her way to pick her up for the remainder of practice, but I couldn’t leave her in the car while I went in.
Over the past year, Nellie has taught us about unconditional love, managing our time and stress levels lol and the whole list of things that puppies cannot have. I don’t know how many times I have told Nate, “Don’t give her any of that – it has xx and she can’t have it.” and he politely reminds me that I am the one that always gives her my food – not him. 🙂
Some of my favorite things:
- Her sleeping positions. It is so funny to see her run in her sleep when she is dreaming and wander around the house trying to find her when she is most likely sleeping in a little ball under our bed.
- Her smile. I swear she is the happiest dog. The smile (or what I think is a smile) just kills me!
- Her love for antlers and peanut butter. Seriously.. That girl will do anything for either.
- Her apologies. Nellie is a pretty big dog and Nate likes to wrestle her, so sometimes she gets a little out of control. If she ends up scratching you or something… she will either bring you all of her toys out of her basket, or put her head in your lap and just stare at you until she is forgiven. It doesn’t take much for me – I am a sucker.
There are so many other things I could write about our pup. We are so lucky to have her and thankful to K9 Rescue and Rehoming for taking a chance on a couple of people who had no idea what they were getting into.
Happy Friday! We are celebrating tonight with some cupcakes (and a pupcake) when Nate gets home from work. Technically – her “gotcha” day was yesterday but we wanted to make sure to include Nate in on the fun! We are gearing up for a housewarming party tomorrow. On Sunday, I am going dress shopping with my bestie Julie for her wedding!
