Nate and I were pretty ambitious when we moved into our house. In the first few weeks, we painted the two upstairs bedrooms and the bathroom, added a shiplap wall in our bedroom and planned to finish our entire house by the time we hit our one year move-in anniversary.
Well… our one year mark hit in November and let’s just say that we got a little ahead of ourselves. I don’t think we took into consideration how many other commitments that we had in 2017 and how much time/money it would take to complete the house.
After some reevaluation, here is a list of what we (okay.. I) want to get done in 2018!
Home Improvement Goals and Inspiration
- Add a backsplash
- Update our kitchen table
- New chairs
- Bench seat
We have not made any huge changes to our kitchen since we moved in. I would like to start by adding a backsplash and updating some of the seating around our kitchen table to make it more of a focal point. It would still be totally functional – just more styled.
- Hang curtains
- Some kind of laundry system
- Cover cords from television
I picked up these curtains and a curtain rod in the last couple of weeks. Now we just have to find the time to install. That should be an easy check off of our list! We spend quite a bit of time and energy updating this room when we first moved in – so it is just the finishing touches. The main thing for this room would be some sort of laundry system. Right now we have one basket that gets transported from upstairs to our laundry room – and most of the clothes end up in a pile on the floor. I am really loving this one!
- Add a curved shower rod
- Organization under the sink and in cupboards
- Add shelves above the toilet
We also painted the bathroom when we first moved in. The initial color reminded me of my corporate logo – so it had to go! We painted it Rock Candy by Sherwin Williams. I would love to add a curved shower rod for a little bit more room inside our shower and then find a way to better organize our cupboards and under the sink.
Our Industrial Towel Bar just went up, and we have plans to add more shelves above the toilet too!
- Add rug
This one is pretty straight forward….
- Finish organization
- Be able to park both vehicles inside
This one is all in Nate’s bucket. He owns the garage – and is also the person who is parking their vehicle outside right now!
- Functional bathroom
- Drywall up
We are still in the process of discussing what our basement is going to look like when it is done. It is all roughed in, so we know where rooms are… it is just layout of the rooms, paint, color scheme and all of the rest that is still in question. Nate thinks he is going to have two “hunting and fishing stuff” rooms… I want to move the office downstairs and do a guest bedroom.. We will see what we can come up with.
- Finish landscaping
- Plant flowers
- Lifted Garden Box
Nate started our landscaping over 4th of July last year and it turned out awesome. We have one more path around the side of our house and then a gathering area with a firepit on the list for this year. I would love to start a garden this year. Instead of doing something permanent, I would love to have something like this to start out. That way, Nellie can’t get into it either!
I might also be pretty ambitious for 2018, but by focusing on (mostly) smaller projects and “fixes”, hopefully we can check more off of our list!
What are your home goals for this year? Is there anything you want to see – home related – coming up on the blog? Leave me a note in the comments!
