“Babe, do you know where my keys are?” is a frequently asked question at our place. We have been talking about coming up with a space to always keep our keys so we can avoid the search every time we try to leave the house.
This project was created using materials that we already had – minus the hooks – so it only ended up costing us $2.98!
You will need:
- 1 – 1ft, 1×4 board – we used an extra piece we had from our DIY Giant Jenga project
- Hooks for Keys
- Sharpie Paint Pen
- Picture Hanger
- Nail and Hammer to Hang
Start by staining your 1ft board the color of your choosing. We always use Minwax Wood Finish in Honey 272 and an old white t shirt to apply. Let the board dry.
Measure 4 inches from each end and use a pencil to mark across the bottom where to insert the hooks. Twist the key hooks into their marked spots.
Use the Sharpie Paint Pen to write your phrase on the wood – I picked His & Hers. Let dry. Another option would be to purchase a vinyl saying to attach to the wood. There was a really cute one at my local craft store that said Keys Please.
Use the screwdriver to attach the picture hanger(s) to the back of the board and hang up!
This project has already proven to be a huge time saver in our house. Now if I could only do something about our cell phones and wallets…
