A couple of weeks ago, I watched my co-worker’s 7-year-old while her and her hubby were in Mexico. I stayed at her house and tried my best to keep him to his normal schedule. Parents – shout out to you for keeping it all together. My mom laughed out loud when I called her wondering how she ever got anywhere on time. Here are 5 things I learned from a 7-year-old:
1. Sometimes it takes 10 minutes to put your socks on.
Getting moving in the morning for a 7-year-old is nearly impossible and tbh.. It drove me a little crazy. This was the morning I had to call my mother and ask how she ever got us anywhere on time.
2. Sticking to a schedule is really important.
I am a planner already but I did not realize how important schedules are when taking care of a child. There is no more snoozing 7 times or making last-minute trips to Target when you only have two hours until bedtime and you haven’t even thought about dinner yet.
3. Reconfirmed… cooking is the worst.
On that note… Cooking is the worst. Nate and I are very spur of the moment when it comes to our meals and it is not uncommon for us to eat dinner at 8:00 p.m. That is not possible with a 7-year-old. I am not going to lie… we had a lot of pizza.
4. I am not as technically savvy as I thought I was.
I consider myself pretty savvy when it comes to technology – I love my Apple products – but what kind of wizardry is MINECRAFT? This kid is zooming around on this app and building theme parks out of blocks faster than I can send an email. Time to step up my game.
5. Be nice to everyone – even if they are a bully because you don’t want to be a bully too.
This was one of the first things he said to me. There was a bully at school and she was really mean but we are still nice to her because we don’t want to be a bully too… TRUTH. Sometimes is it nice to have a reminder. Although adults are not pushing people down on the playground – we can still bully each other. Definitely an eye opener for me.
I hope you all had a great weekend and are ready to curl up on the couch for The Bachelor tonight. Will Corrine go home? The suspense is killing me! 🙂 I am ready to fast forward to the weekend. Minnesota has sunny at 52 degree weather in the forecast and I can’t wait to spend some time outside. Thanks for stopping by!
