After much deliberation (and a couple weeks to adjust), I have decided to welcome 26 with open arms. Although 25 was great – with a new job, a new apartment and a lot of new adventures – I am vowing to make 26 even better. Instead of setting unobtainable New Year’s Resolutions at the beginning of 2016, I have decided to set some “New Year of Life” vows to hold myself (and 26) accountable.
- More Yes
- Less Stress
- More Activity
- Thank You
Since starting my new job in April last year, I have found myself declining a lot of invitations. Granted there is a huge adjustment going from a bar job four nights a week to a full-time 8-5 – this year I vow to accept. Dinner at 8 p.m. on a Monday – yes. Stay up binge watching Netflix – yes. Have that extra glass of wine – you get the idea.
As my boyfriend, Nate, would say – just go with the flow. Anyone who knows me personally knows that I am a planner. I would plan everything down to the minute if I could, and sometimes a change of plans can cause a lot of unnecessary stress. This year I promise to try my best not to sweat the small stuff.
I had to throw the cliché in here somewhere, right?
This year I will try something new, go somewhere new and make time for adventure. Whether it be 10 minutes or 10 days, 26 will be full of adventure and I can’t wait.
This year I promise to say “Thank You”. I am not saying I vow to have manners – that should be expected from everyone. When you work in a bar for seven years like I did, you are conditioned to say “Thank You” to anyone and everyone who passes through the establishment. Although always genuine, I vow to put more meaning into the words, “Thank you.”
And there you have it folks – my “New Year of Life” goals for 26. Hopefully they can inspire you to set reachable goals for yourself and make your next year the best one yet.
